Body doubling app with one partner on camera
Book a 50-minute slot on the Cofocus calendar. If someone else books it too, they’re your partner, and you both work on your own tasks with cameras on and mics usually muted.
You
Your partner Body doubling means having someone there while you work, like inviting a friend over just so you’ll clean the kitchen.
If you have ADHD, you may have done this for years without knowing it had a name. Over video, it’s called virtual body doubling.
A Tuesday session, 8:00 to 8:50 pm
You both join. You say: “Two client invoices, then an email to my landlord.” They say: “Ten pages of reading for tomorrow’s class, with notes.”
You both mute and put your tasks on the session.
You catch yourself in your inbox. Your partner is still reading, so you close it and go back to the invoice.
You send the first invoice and tick it off.
A tick appears on their list: pages read.
The second invoice goes out, and you open the landlord email.
Check-in: you’re halfway through the email; they’ve started the notes.
The session ends, and you book Thursday at 8.
Who sees what
- Your partner sees you on camera, your profile and the tasks on the session.
- A task can be as vague as “admin”.
- They don’t see your screen unless you share it.
- Video and sound are encrypted in transit, and neither is stored.
- Members agree not to screenshot or record a session.
Which kind of body doubling app suits you?
Most online body doubling apps are one of these five kinds.
| Kind | What happens | Pick it if |
|---|---|---|
| One partner on video, booked ahead (Cofocus) | You book a time and work alongside one other person, both on camera. | you want one person there and no chatter. |
| Group video rooms | Many people in one call, often with a host who runs it, at set times or open all day. | you like a full room and someone in charge. |
| Audio-only or no camera | You hear or sense someone working, and nobody sees you. | being seen is a dealbreaker. |
| Recorded videos | You work along with a video of someone studying. | you want company at any hour and it doesn’t have to be live. |
| Task apps with nudges | Reminders and prompts, with no second person. | you mostly need reminding. |
If you won’t be on camera at all, or you’d like a host, one of the other kinds will fit you better than Cofocus.
Around your sessions

Reminders
Emails before each session at the times you choose, and a sound before it starts while Cofocus is in another tab.
Picture-in-picture
Float your partner’s video in a small window over your other tabs and apps. In Chrome, Edge, Arc and Opera, the session’s clock and their status come with it.

Questions
If yours isn’t here, ask us
on the contact page.
How much do I have to talk?
Very little. You name your task in the first minute or so and check in at the end. Anything in between can go in the session chat.
Does my camera have to stay on the whole time?
Yes, with your face in view, and your partner’s too. You only see their video while yours is on, and keeping it off for long can lead to penalties.
Is there an app to download?
No. Cofocus is a body doubling website, and a session opens in a browser tab. You’ll need a camera, a microphone and a steady connection.
What if nobody books the same time as me?
You won’t be paired that time, and it doesn’t count towards your 3 free sessions. Nor does a session your partner never joins, or leaves before you’ve had 10 minutes together. If your partner hasn’t arrived a minute after the start, press Request rematch to look for someone else.
Can I choose who I work with?
By default it’s whoever else booked that time. To work with a friend, send them your booking link: they see the times you’re offering, pick one and sign up to book it. If you liked a partner, connect with them so you can message each other, and book into their sessions from their profile if they allow it.
What if a partner makes me uncomfortable?
Block them and you won’t be paired with them again. You can also report them, and the team will look into it.
Is body doubling a treatment for ADHD?
No, and Cofocus doesn’t replace medical care.
