Most of it is quiet work, with a short hello at the start
and a check-in at the end.
A sentence or two is enough, and the goal can be as small as filling in one form.
Microphones usually go on mute, and cameras stay on the whole time.
When the time is up, you each say how far you got and what’s left.
Examples of what people say at the end of a session.
“Intro’s done, about 150 words. I’ll start the first section on Thursday.”
Tuesday10:50 · end of session“I updated my address with the bank, the doctor and the council. The electricity company is next.”
“I typed up twelve of my gran’s recipes. There are about thirty left in the box.”
Sunday22:50 · end of session“All four invoices are sent. Two clients still owe me from August, so those are next.”
“I wrote the about page and got through maybe a third of the services page.”
“Sent two applications, the library one and the one at the museum.”

The hello takes under a minute, and it usually sounds like this.

You“Hi, I’m new here. I’m going to work on my personal statement.”
Your partner“Welcome! I’m finishing a presentation for work. Good luck with yours.”

After the hello, nobody expects you to talk until the check-in.
Saying “some writing” is enough.
Send someone your booking link and do your first session together.

No. Video and sound go from your device to your partner’s, encrypted the whole way, and none of it is stored. Members also agree not to screenshot or record a session.
Yes. Body doubling means working in the presence of another person, even when you’re doing different things. Cofocus brings that arrangement online, with a set time to start and finish.
Another Cofocus member who has booked the same time. They might be studying, working, or catching up on something at home. You each work independently, and you don’t need to share an interest or an occupation.
Yes, for the whole session. Seeing each other there is part of how it works. Set your camera up so your partner can see you, and choose somewhere you’re comfortable being on video for 50 minutes.
Your screen stays private unless you share it. You never have to show the work itself: a short description such as “I’m preparing for an exam” is enough.
Tell your partner how it went. You might finish, get partway through, or find that the task needs more thought. Nobody expects a finished result.
A minute after the start, you can press Request a match in the session to look for someone else.
Yes. Send them your booking link so they can book a session with you, or book one of their times from their profile.
A computer or phone with a camera and microphone, a steady internet connection, and 50 minutes when you can stay for the whole session. The hello and the check-in are part of those 50 minutes, and the video call opens on Cofocus itself.
